What does a hearing test consist of?

Hearing test are in large consist of three main parts.

Pure Tone Audiometry

Pure Tone Audiometry is the main part of the hearing assessment to determine the quietest sounds the person can hear (hearing thresholds). It also determines the degree, type and configuration of hearing loss. Thus, providing the basis for diagnosis and management.

Speech Audiometry

Speech Audiometry determines how well the person hears and distinguish words. This is an important part of the assessment as it determines the integrity of the hearing nerves. The damage being done to the hearing nerve could make the word recognition difficult at loud levels.

Immittance Audiometry

Immittance Audiometry determines the status of middle ears and part of the hearing nerve

On completion of the test, we go through the results and normally make following recommendation(s).

Audiologist Auckland

Choosing an Audiologist in Auckland to Assess All Your Options

Visiting an audiologist in Auckland is a step taken by many who feel they may have suffered some form of damage to their hearing. The development of a persistent ringing or buzzing in the ears, such as tinnitus, is one reason why some choose to seek out a professional well-versed in the medical science surrounding hearing. Loss of hearing or degradation of hearing quality are also important reasons to consider seeking insight into the condition of your ears. At Focus Hearing, we provide an accessible resource for testing, diagnosis, and the supply of cost-effective hearing aids in Auckland. What kind of support do we provide to those who visit our clinic?

What You Should Know About Audiology in Auckland

Many of those who visit our clinic have little or no experience with visiting an audiologist. Some receive referrals from specialists or their GP after possible hearing damage on the job, or due to the development of new issues. At Focus Hearing, we believe in creating a comfortable, welcoming environment so you may feel relaxed and well cared for during your appointment. What should you know about this discipline and the services we provide?

  • Audiology is all about the study and understanding of the way we hear, and thus primarily focuses on understanding the issues impacting an individual's ability to hear. Audiologists provide thorough testing of your hearing abilities, which may also prove important for employment purposes. By relying on the best science available surrounding hearing, we apply the principles of contemporary research to provide our clients with better insights into their hearing.

  • We don't deal primarily in hearing loss, but also in alterations to how you hear. Tinnitus affects millions of people worldwide and for some may pose a challenge in day to day life. While there is no permanent way to reverse tinnitus, it is possible to provide rehabilitative solutions to address these quality of life issues. Your audiologist can thoroughly explore such concerns with you.

  • We help protect your hearing from future damage, too. Do regular earplugs become too bothersome for you to wear? We provide custom fitting of plugs for sleeping, swimming, and many other uses.

Free Hearing Check in Auckland

Try a Free Hearing Check in Auckland to Determine Your Next Steps

Could a free hearing check in Auckland provide you with useful insights? Whether you were exposed to potentially damaging levels of noise on the job or your hearing isn't what it used to be, these tests may offer opportunities for exploring what next steps to take. For example, work-related hearing damage may make you eligible for hearing aid funding under the ACC scheme. In either case, understanding your actual level of hearing capacity — and what you could do to improve those capabilities — requires a special kind of test. At Focus Hearing, we make it quick and easy to acquire one of these diagnostics, and we're happy to provide an initial examination free of charge.

The Importance of Taking a Hearing Test in Auckland

Why should you consider booking an appointment to come in for a hearing check in Auckland? There are many reasons to consider, but we think there are three that most demonstrate the importance of such a test. Here's what to keep in mind:

  • Many people develop hearing loss over the course of their lifetime, and it may be a gradual process. You may not even recognise right away that there may be potential benefits in some kind of hearing rehabilitation.

  • Sudden changes in hearing abilities may be a sign of an underlying condition, such as very high blood pressure or the onset of diabetes. Receiving a baseline hearing test provides an opportunity to gauge your overall health, too.

  • If you may have suffered work-related hearing loss, testing to determine the level of loss is necessary for pursuing ACC reimbursement or coverage of rehabilitative steps.

With the right information, selecting hearing aids that align with your level of hearing and budget is much simpler and less stressful.

Problems You Can Address With a Hearing Test

What are some of the primary issues we detect and diagnose via a hearing diagnostic? Our comprehensive test checks all aspects of hearing to identify and provide insights into a range of issues you may experience. These include:

  • Inability to hear quiet sounds. One of the most common symptoms of hearing loss, we'll determine the threshold for your hearing and work from there to provide improvements in hearing quality.

  • Tinnitus. Determining how severe your tinnitus is, contributes to helping your practitioner select better options and to make more informed suggestions for improving your quality of life.

  • Problems perceiving speech. As the overall volume in a space increases, does it become more difficult for you to determine what someone says to you? Our hearing test helps to determine how much of an issue this is for you and what technologies may be useful.
